Life Services Diversity Conference -
Tuesday, May 12 - Wednesday, May 13

On May 12-13, 2009, Diversity Alliance for Science, Inc., a non-profit organization created to develop, support, and mentor diverse woman-, minority-, veteran/disabled-, HubZone-, and GLBT-owned life sciences businesses, will host its second annual networking conference and EXPO event. The two-day event, "Diversity Will Drive our Scientific Future," will be held at the Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott in Newark, N.J. and will feature senior government officials, former NBA star Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Mayor Cory Booker, top-level pharmaceutical executives, and CEOs of diverse scientific and clinical enterprises. The conference limits participation to 300 invitees to facilitate networking and relationship building and to enable smaller diverse companies to have a higher profile.

"Diversity Will Drive our Scientific Future" will provide a forum for participants to collaborate on best practices in fostering the inclusion of diverse businesses in clinical trials and scientific research. This networking conference will include panels on the changing demographics of the U.S. population, the impact of the current economic crisis, and developing strategies to differentiate and effectively mentor diverse suppliers. A series of workshops will feature discussions on a variety of topics, including the Obama Administration's impact on the life sciences industry, the power of partnership, second tier purchasing, and understanding the research supply chain. The EXPO will include an interactive tradeshow where attending corporations can meet leading diverse suppliers providing products and services to the life sciences industry.

"'Diversity Will Drive our Scientific Future' will be a terrific opportunity to foster effective, mutually beneficial partnerships between diverse suppliers and large pharmaceutical companies," said Alison Macpherson, President of Bright Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., member of the Diversity Alliance for Science Board of Directors, and 2009 Conference Chair. "As the world faces these economically challenging times, it is now more important than ever to foster scientific innovation as a driver of economic development by opening the doors for diverse firms to contracts they may not otherwise have access to."
